Job Description
As a Security Vulnerabilities Engineer, you will play a crucial role in identifying, resolving, and preventing security vulnerabilities within our applications. You will work closely with our development and operations teams to ensure our systems are secure and resilient against potential threats. Additionally, you will work to automate the release process and drive efficiency by creating repeatable processes.
This role will sit within one of our newly created security vulnerability teams, focusing on supporting Consumer Technology at Westpac. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals with a background in Software Engineering, DevOps, Platform Engineering or System Engineering. Experience in Quality Assurance would also be highly regarded.
Key responsibilities include:
- Application Vulnerability Resolution: Identify and resolve security vulnerabilities in our applications, ensuring they meet the highest security standards.
- Programming Expertise: Utilize your knowledge of Java, C#, and Node.js to analyse and address security issues within our codebase.
- Automation of Vulnerability Patching: Develop and implement automated processes for patching vulnerabilities, reducing manual intervention and improving efficiency.
- Customer Impact Awareness: Understand and mitigate the impact of security vulnerabilities on our customers, ensuring their data and privacy are protected.
- Proactive Security Measures: Develop and implement proactive processes to anticipate and react to future vulnerabilities, staying ahead of potential threats.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including development, operations, and customer support, to ensure comprehensive security coverage.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of security issues and resolutions and provide regular reports to management on the status of security vulnerabilities.

What do I need?
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in security vulnerability management or a related field.
- Proficiency in Java, C#, and Node.js.
- Experience using Snyk, Tenable or Fortify would be highly regarded, as we use these internally.
- Experience with automation tools and techniques for vulnerability patching.
- Candidates with a background in systems engineering combined with development experience will also be highly regarded.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex security issues.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or Cybersecurity and relevant certifications (e.g. CISSP, CISA) preferred.
