Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and strategic SEO Producer with newsroom experience or a passion for journalism to join our team and play a key role in driving organic traffic across our digital platforms, based at The Age.
You will implement best-practice SEO strategies within the newsroom, with a primary focus on identifying new audience opportunities. This role involves pre-planning SEO for major news events and providing real-time SEO guidance, actionable data analysis, and recommendations to help maximise organic traffic.
We are looking for someone with a strong understanding of the Victorian audience, who can combine their SEO expertise with an instinct for identifying and prioritising the most impactful stories, ensuring our content resonates with local readers.
This position might require some weekend work and early starts.
In this role you will:
- Analyse search performance and develop strategies to grow reach.
- Conduct keyword research for top stories, events, and evergreen content.
- Stay updated on Google’s search ecosystem, including algorithm changes and new features.
- Identify and experiment with emerging platforms to drive audience growth.
- Track and meet follower and engagement goals for SEO platforms.
- Plan and communicate search strategies for major news events.
- Use analytics to guide strategic decisions and identify growth opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Growth Content Editor to maximize evergreen story potential.
- Attend news conferences to stay aligned with story priorities and contribute ideas.
Qualifications
What we would like to see:
- Strong news judgment
- Experience in SEO trends, platforms and audience targeting is desirable
- Understanding of content that aligns with the Metro brands.
- Proven skills in identifying and occasionally writing high-quality stories.
- The ability to work collaboratively across The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, National and various national Metro teams
- Excellent organisation and time management skills.
