About the role:
We are looking for an experienced Data Architect with financial services domain experience to join our engineering team here at Tyro. In this role, you will be responsible for enabling data as a key asset in the organisation by designing, creating, and managing the structure of our data solutions to support the organisation’s customer product experiences and internal business intelligence needs. This role requires expertise in data modelling, database design, cloud data architecture, and ensuring data systems are scalable, secure, and aligned with business objectives.
What you'll do:
Shape Tyro’s Data Architecture – Design and implement scalable, secure, and cost-effective data solutions that align with business needs and architectural principles.
Drive Data Strategy & Innovation – Define data management frameworks, optimise data systems, and evaluate new technologies to enhance performance and scalability.
Build & Evolve Data Solutions – Develop data models, ingestion pipelines, and integrations across platforms like Snowflake, AWS, Salesforce, and MySQL/PostgreSQL.
Ensure Compliance & Security – Work with security and compliance teams to uphold data governance, privacy, and regulatory standards.
Collaborate & Communicate – Partner with business and technology leaders, translating complex data strategies into clear, actionable insights.
Champion Best Practices – Establish standards for data modelling, integration, and quality management while continuously improving Tyro’s architecture practice.
What you'll bring:
Proven track record in Agile, highly collaborative environments, ideally within financial services or other regulated industries.
Strong knowledge of hybrid technology landscapes, including SaaS (Salesforce, Mambu) and bespoke microservices on AWS.
Hands-on experience with MySQL/PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Kafka, AWS Glue, and Tableau, plus a deep understanding of IT governance.
Ability to design contextual, scalable solutions while balancing long-term goals with real-world constraints.
Able to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences and work closely with stakeholders across the business.
Passion for Quality & Innovation – A commitment to designing and building high-quality, customer-focused software and systems.
Even better if:
Proven experience in enabling data in a financial services organisation for both customer product experiences and internal business intelligence enablement.
Sound knowledge in Australian financial services regulatory compliance like APRA's CPS/CPG guidelines, PCI compliance, Privacy Act, etc.
