🚀 The role
We’re looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join our helpline solutions squad — the team behind our web app, embeddable widget, and API products. These tools connect people in crisis — whether facing suicidal thoughts, sexual assault, domestic violence, or eating disorders — with vital helpline support.
As the senior engineer on a small, fast-moving team, you’ll play a key role in designing and developing software that directly responds to the needs of our users and customers.
Your work will impact the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in crisis every month, making a real difference when it matters most. Your contributions will be meaningful, visible, and deeply rewarding.
What You’ll Do:
- Full stack development: Design, build, test, and iterate on impactful features that improve outcomes for our users and customers, and keep our systems performant and reliable.
- Data insights: Analyse, interpret, and present data to inform decision-making.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with Product and Clinical teams to craft technical solutions that reflect insights from our users and customers, and meet real-world needs.
- Develop the team: Use your hard won experience to improve everything. Mentor others, give and receive feedback, and refine systems, processes, and workflows.
- Shape the future: Bring your expertise to influence decisions and initiatives that advance our mission and shape the company's future.
💡 What you’ll bring
We’re searching for a flexible developer who’s passionate about our mission, a team player, and a skilled engineer. Specifically:
- Experience: 5+ years of full-stack web application development with modern frameworks. We build using Next.js (React), Ruby on Rails, RESTful APIs, Apollo GraphQL, and Material UI, so experience with these frameworks is a plus.
- Cloud Platforms: Hands-on experience with modern cloud platforms like Heroku, Vercel, AWS, Google Cloud etc.
- Code craft: A commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
- Testing: Strong unit and integration testing skills.
- DevOps: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps principles.
- Product-minded: Focused on achieving product goals and engaging in discovery, not just execution. Knowledge of UX/UI design is a plus.
- Mission-Driven: Kind, collaborative, adaptable, and energised by ThroughLine’s mission.
- Mentorship skills: Experience coaching and mentoring developers to improve their craft and grow their impact.
📍 Where you’ll be based
This is a hybrid role based in Auckland, New Zealand. We’re together in the office a minimum of two days per week. However, the squad you'll be working with will require more extended in-office collaboration at key points.
