Senior Designer
Crafting thoughtful, idea led design.
Elevating our world-class design standard.
All in a supportive and dynamic environment.
Due to phenomenal growth, we are looking for a senior designer who knows their craft inside out, to create best in class design work across a wide range of applications (branding, motion, illustration, print and interactive design).
While we operate at a global level, we maintain a start up culture within an environment that is social, fun and engaging, in a warehouse-style office space that is full of natural light. You’ll be joining an incredibly supportive team of designers, animators, illustrators and UX/UIers, all eager to trade their expertise.
Allow us to introduce ourselves
We’re Apparent, a full-service, independent agency made up of 140 thinkers, creators and solution-makers doing what we do best. One thing you should know about us: we’ve got an entrepreneurial spirit, and we know the work worth doing doesn’t fit into neat, tidy boxes. And neither should you, for that matter.
Our warehouse space in Redfern is here for you to gather, make stuff you’re proud of and grow your strengths (even if they have nothing to do with your job description).
We punch well above our weight, with some of the biggest clients in the world on our roster, from tech giants like Google and IBM, to local icons like Tourism Australia and Cricket Australia.
Our approach? We call it the red thread. In other words, it’s the thing that connects everything we do, from the customer, through to the client and brand. On any given day you can expect to cross paths with someone in strategy, brand, creative, content production, social media, UX/UI, technology and media planning and buying. Oh and dogs, too. You’ll definitely cross paths with adorable dogs.
The role
- You will be hands-on creating a range of outputs. From high level concepts to animated videos, websites, branding, social media posts, infographics, keynote presentations, display banners, illustrations, emails, animations, printed materials and physical events.
- Taking the lead on projects and mentoring our junior team members along the way.
- Responsible for ensuring we elevate our standard of design craft at every opportunity. You will constantly be pushing the boundaries on our design output, both technically and conceptually.
- Finding new and exciting ways to push and evolve our client’s brand guidelines (and persuading those clients teams to do so).
- Collaborating with writers and strategists to come up with idea-led designs that will be scaled across brands, videos, campaigns and asset-kits.
- You’ll be working with some of the most incredible brands within a large tight-knit design team. You will also collaborate with the wider creative, production, strategy and account service teams.
- Directing specialist creatives, including illustrators, animators, 3D artists and photographers.
Skills you’ll need:
- 4+ years design experience in a creative agency or design studio with a relevant tertiary degree.
- Strong graphic and brand design fundamentals.
- Obsessed with both the details and the big picture.
- Experience managing or mentoring designers.
- A hunger to push boundaries and continue to grow.
- Strong creative, problem solving and organisational skills.
- Positive, flexible, self motivated attitude with a willingness to learn and adapt on the fly.
- Ability to generate key design concepts – taking jobs from concept to rollout, through to finished work with a high level of attention to detail applied throughout.
- Collaborative approach to design and ideating.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially in articulating design decisions.
- Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite applications including Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. Sound experience in Figma. Familiarity with Keynote, Google Slides or Powerpoint. Fundamental understanding of motion graphics/animation (basic working skill of Aftereffects a bonus).
- Ancillary skills such as 3D, illustration or animation are a huge bonus.
