IT Operations Lead - Fixed Term Duration

The temporary role of IT Operations Lead presents an excellent opportunity to step into a technical leadership position and further develop operational expertise while working with a highly skilled team to drive continuous improvement and ensure the stability of critical IT services.
At its core, the role is responsible for providing operational intelligence with a focus on CRM technologies as part of the IT Operations Rapid Response Team (RRT). The RRT is composed of highly skilled subject matter experts. Their primary responsibility is to quickly address and resolve major incidents to minimise downtime and improve overall system reliability. They are also responsible for investigation and diagnosing complex production issues, identifying root causes, and driving implementation of permanent corrective actions to ensure continuous improvement and high availability of IT services for the business.
Please note, this is a fixed term, Full-time temporary opportunity for up to 12 months.
The day to day
- Drive strategies to improve platform performance, re-architect problematic elements, and ensure high service availability by coordinating infrastructure and application changes.
- Drive expert use of observability toolsets (Dyntarce, ELK and PagerDuty) in Optus CRMs to proactively detect issues before they impact business operations.
- Reduce system major incidents, meet incident restoration metrics, and proactively address platform issues.
- Provide technical expertise, collaborate with business and technical teams to define scope, and advise senior leaders on critical initiatives.
- Drive continuous improvement, enable enterprise-wide change, and evaluate progress against KPIs while encouraging innovation, risk-taking, and organizational learning.
Why you are our next Operations Lead
- Relevant qualification in IT, Computer Science, or Engineering; postgraduate qualifications preferred. Minimum 5 years of IT experience, including 3 years in the telecommunications industry.
- Proven success in IT operations roles, with experience managing incidents in complex, high-pressure environments and driving outcomes through vendor management.
- Expertise in CRM systems (preferably Amdocs), UNIX/Linux OS, virtualization (e.g., VMware), cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), networking concepts (TCP/IP), and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell).
- Solid understanding of architectural principles, critical metrics, monitoring systems (Elastic, Dynatrace), automation tools (e.g., Puppet), and operational intelligence for trend analysis.
- Excellent business partner management, collaboration, and influencing skills, with experience communicating at senior and executive levels.
- Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills with a focused, flexible approach to problem-solving, delivering creative solutions under pressure and within timelines.
- Self-motivated, resourceful, and able to build high-performing teams while displaying leadership, resilience, and ownership in achieving project goals.
