About the role
This is one of the key roles in the Wpay Engineering space who is directly reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager. You must be passionate about cloud and platform architecture design, preparation, cost, risk estimation, and more importantly development leadership and coaching on teams technical capability.
You will also work as an interface between cross functional teams including Engineers, Product Managers, Operations and Support. A maturity level of mixed technical and leadership skills are required.
- Design and operate high quality, scalable and performant cloud platforms
- Provide team leadership to a small squad of platform engineers
- Coordinate with other Tech Leads and the architecture team on best practice and ensure all squads are aligned to Wpay standards and collaborate across various teams, while mentoring and coaching other engineers.
- Deep dive into technical blockers including hands-on contribution as necessary. Strong operational focus, will actively jump into help recover systems as needed.
- Investigate and recommend improvement opportunities to drive continuous improvement and ensure Woolworths remains innovative and up to date with market-leading technologies and industry trends.
- Maintains high standards with relation to compliance (including PII, PCI), security, and risk, and guides the technical teams accordingly.
About you
- You bring with you a background in Platform Engineering whilst having recent experience leading agile teams and individuals.
- Strong experience delivering functional/non-function technical solutions and are able to build solid relationships and have a clear and concise communication style.
- Excellent experience with Azure Cloud, Kubernetes and related technologies using the principles of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
- Exposure and understanding of:
- Database technologies, particularly document based systems (MongoDB)
- Azure DevOps & GitHub
- Cloud monitoring tools include Prometheus, Grafana, Appinsight and Dynatrace etc.
- Google Cloud data tooling (BigQuery)
- Data engineering patterns, including NRT time, synchronous data integration, event messaging, pub/sub and Kafka models, and legacy patterns such as SFTP.
- Automation and software tooling, software management and branching, dev environments etc.
- Strong understanding of secure and compliant platforms.
