What you’d be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
- Architect and implement high-quality, scalable frontend solutions that improve user experiences and drive the adoption of Canva’s premium offerings. This includes translating complex product requirements into robust architectures, writing high-quality code, collaborating with engineers across teams, and ensuring seamless deployment and operation in production environments.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve the code architecture, performance, and scalability. Take ownership of complex technical initiatives, contribute to strategic technical decisions, and champion the adoption of best practices and new technologies.
- Champion platform health and operational excellence: Establish and maintain high standards for code quality, testing, and monitoring. Analyse performance, identify bottlenecks and implement optimisations to ensure the code remains healthy and scalable. Contribute to incident response and resolution processes.
- Lead technical discussions, providing insights and mentorship to the team members to uphold best practices in front-end development.
- Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing. Work closely with other engineering and product teams to understand their needs and dependencies.
You're probably a match if
- Extensive experience (7+ years) in modern frontend development, with a strong proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, React, or similar frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement scalable, high-performance web applications.
- Being Hands-on and able to deliver on most complex projects
- A solid understanding of accessibility, performance optimization, and responsive design principles, developing for cross platform applications.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and mentor others effectively.
- Experience with A/B testing, analytics tools, and data-driven product development, machine learning and personalisation models is a plus.
- A passion for experimentation and innovation in user experiences.
- Familiarity with backend integration and cloud technologies like AWS is advantageous.
- A passion for improving engineering best practices, proactively identifying new solutions and improvements in the existing codebase, building new designs, being able to join and deliver on most complex projects.

The Monetization Group is on a mission to build and optimize Canva's revenue engine, driving adoption of our paid offerings across all user segments globally. This team incubates new revenue streams while ensuring users have an exceptional experience. By leveraging experimentation, personalisation, machine learning and AI, the team collaborates to solve challenging problems that directly impact Canva's success and its ability to empower the world to design. The group collaborates with many other teams across company, including machine learning team, personalisation, core feature teams and many more.
As a Staff Frontend Engineer in the Monetization Group, you will play a critical role in developing and optimizing user experiences that drive customer growth and conversion. You will collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers across the Growth Supergroup to create innovative solutions that enhance Canva's revenue streams. Your expertise will help guide technical decisions, ensure scalability, and set new standards for frontend development excellence.
