Where the team fits in
PropTrack is REA’s property data solutions business. The acquisition of Hometrack (now ‘PropTrack’) by the REA Group in 2018 is part of a strategy to create a ‘property data powerhouse’. The capabilities required will underpin REA’s market leading position into the future, protect against new market entrants and networks as well as provide a new strategic growth plank for REA Group across Data Solutions, Products, Platforms, Insights and Analytics.
We are the engine room of REA. Our mission is to:
- Improve the quality, access and usage of our property data for consumers, and customers.
- Build reusable data products and patterns that unlock value stored in our data
- Create unique insights based on user, listings, property and customer data
- Invest in the reliability, quality and security of systems and data
What the role is all about
You will be joining a group of wonderful people, function in a distributed team and solve complex problems that have far reaching benefits to the business and Tech community.
As a Data Engineer you will contribute within PropTrack in the following ways:
- Designing, coding, testing and deploying new software products using a variety of technologies and platforms.
- Maintaining existing products, including bug fixes and “Business As Usual” feature enhancements.
- Supporting production systems.
- Data migration from other database environments & cloud services
- Building high quality solutions that meet the needs of our users.
- Leading the implementation of major features.
Who we’re looking for
Our ideal candidate will have skills in some of the following areas, whilst demonstrating both a desire and commitment to learning others.
- Good skills in one or more mainstream programming languages, preferably Python.
- Good understanding of design patterns, modern software development techniques and continuous delivery strategies.
- Exposure to data engineering concepts and associated technologies such as Airflow, BigQuery Kafka, batch and real-time data pipelines, ELT, and SQL.
- Exposure to Linux and shell scripting.
- Experience with DevOps practices and techniques, such as Docker and CI/CD tools.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with business stakeholders.
- Ability to manage the competing demands of multiple projects in a timely manner.
- Ability to work collaboratively and autonomously in a fast paced environment.
Bonus if you have any of the following
- Experience in using and managing Cloud infrastructure in AWS and/or GCP.
- Experience with any Infrastructure as Code techniques, particularly AWS CloudFormation, AWS CDK and Terraform.
- Exposure to platform engineering concepts or developer experience & tooling.
- Exposure to Scala or Ruby, we have some legacy systems that need care until we migrate
- Willingness to learn new and complex technologies, and ability to share knowledge with the team.
