Job Description
Are you ready to shape the future of journalism? As the Learning & Development Specialist in Nine’s Publishing division, you’ll lead the charge in designing innovative capability development programs to supercharge the skills of Australia’s most celebrated newsrooms. You’ll benefit from working closely with Nine’s People & Culture team, reporting through to the Publishing division’s Business Partner.
Combining your learning design wizardry with our journalistic expertise, you’ll enable journalists to captivate audiences with world-class content across iconic brands like The Australian Financial Review, The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, Brisbane Times, Good Food, and WAtoday.
What’s in store for your day-to-day?
- Unearth skills gaps through regular training-needs-analysis, ensuring our newsrooms have the core technical skills to stay on top of their game
- Dream up and roll out innovative, scalable learning modules
- Bring learning to life by organising online and in-person sessions, wrangling facilitators, and occasionally taking center stage yourself
- Collaborate on key initiatives that level up the audience experience
- Be the go-to curator for L&D resources on the Publishing editorial intranet (your hub of brilliance)
- Evaluate training outcomes utilising a variety of measures, including participant/leader satisfaction, subscriber acquisition, audience engagement, and employee engagement.

Qualifications
We want someone who’s as passionate about learning as they are about storytelling. An experienced L&D pro, you’ll relish the chance to level up the skills of Australia’s best journalists during a time of exhilarating growth and transformation.
What we would like to see:
- A background in Learning & Development, or workplace training, with demonstrated experience assessing and designing a skills development program from scratch
- Experience in instructional design, adult education, and/or training facilitation
- Strong stakeholder management experience, including prioritisation and negotiation of competing demands
- Certification or qualification in instructional design or human resources is desirable, but not essential
- Experience working in journalism, newsrooms, media and/or communications is desirable, but not essential
