Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Broadcast Operator to join our dynamic team, supporting live broadcasts for the Today Show, Wide World of Sports and other high-profile events.
If you’re a recent graduate with a degree in Media, Broadcasting, Communications, or Engineering, or have 1-2 years of relevant experience, this is a fantastic opportunity to kick-start your career in broadcasting and gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
About the role:
- Set up and operate camera and audio equipment for live news broadcasts, including live crosses and pre-recorded shoots.
- Assist with the setup and operation of additional broadcast equipment, such as video, audio, transmission, and communications infrastructure.
- Operate drones for live sports coverage and other programming needs (training provided).
- Ensure video and sound quality meet broadcast standards.
- Troubleshoot technical issues during live broadcasts and pre-recorded shoots.
- Provide technical support for Nine's outside broadcast teams during live news and sports events.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies in the broadcast industry and actively seek ways to enhance operations.

- Strong communication skills, demonstrating a positive and professional style in all interactions.
- Ability to thrive in both small team settings and working independently, with strong time management and prioritisation skills.
- Proven collaboration skills, working closely with peers, broadcast engineers, producers, technical directors, and on-air talent to resolve technical issues and ensure smooth operations.
- Comfortable with adapting to new and evolving technologies.
- Able to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Flexibility to work a 7-day rotating roster, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
- Physical stamina to work in demanding environments, including standing or moving for long periods, working in confined spaces, and enduring various weather conditions during outdoor assignments.
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification (TAFE or University) or relevant experience in television broadcasting or engineering.
- Valid NSW Driver's Licence (Including P1 & P2).
- Basic knowledge of camera functions, including iris, focus, depth of field, and shutter speed.
- Understanding of audio monitoring and microphone usage for talent, including cabled, wireless, and lapel mics.
- Familiarity with general broadcast equipment, including cameras, lenses, tripods, vision mixers, audio equipment, and desks, as well as other live production tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills, including experience with Microsoft or Google applications.
Desirable Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
- Previous experience in a technical role within television production or outside broadcasts.
- Basic knowledge of cellular transmission systems such as LiveU and Dejero.
- Understanding of satellite transmission, microwave, IP, and RF technologies.
