Why your role matters:
The Head of P&C Systems is a key member of the People & Culture Management group and makes a proactive contribution to the culture and goals of the University, responsible for the strategic and operational ownership of P&C systems and providing strategic planning, development, delivery and support of digital services and systems to support the end-to-end P&C lifecycle. As an experienced leader, you will lead a team who maintain and manage the P&C systems and data to support essential and business critical P&C processes. They are accountable for the effective management and delivery of HR systems across UNSW through strategic leadership, expertise and a continuous improvement focus. This role is familiar with recognised industry bodies of knowledge, industry trends and actively maintains an in-depth and current knowledge of technological and software developments for own personal development and the mentoring and coaching of others. This role works under broad direction, is self-initiated, and performs an extensive range and variety of complex work activities. The Head of P&C Systems reports to the Director of P&C Transformation and has up to 15 direct reports.
Specific accountabilities for this role include:
- Provide strategic planning, development, delivery and support of digital services and systems to support the end-to-end P&C lifecycle.
- Collaborate with P&C and business leaders and provide expert, specialist advice to ensure delivery of P&C transformation programs which meet agreed objectives within resource allocation, budget and time, including requirements gathering, solution analysis, testing, process documentation and delivery.
- Conduct a thorough analysis of P&C systems and processes to identify gaps and recommend, drive, and implement opportunities for improvement.
- Continuously improve the service management and operations of the P&C Systems unit and commit to innovation to improve quality, efficiency and responsiveness of services to changing strategic and business priorities.
- Maintain in-depth and current knowledge of technological and software developments and industry trends to ensure alignment with best practice and the processing, reporting and employee experience needs of the University.
- Establish strong relationships across P&C and collaborate with specialist service delivery partners, including UNSW IT, to maintain and manage P&C and payroll systems and ensure appropriate technology infrastructure support
- Fulfill the role of Data Custodian to provide oversight and manage P&C data throughout its lifecycle in compliance with the University data governance framework to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and security of the data and information
- Drive a compliant culture including sustainable pay confidence.
- Develop and lead implementation of ongoing staff development for P&C Systems Team – both formal training and on the job learning and foster effective implementation of the MyCareer process.
- Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.
- Ensure hazards and risks psychosocial and physical are identified and controlled for tasks, projects, and activities that pose a health and safety risk within your area of responsibility.
Who you are:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field and extensive experience in a similar role and in the development and management of complex P&C management and Payroll systems to support a large and complex organisation.
- Experience and knowledge of a broad range of IT systems with superior level of ERP, data and analytics technology knowledge
- Demonstrated extensive experience working in a large or complex organisation with a focus on stakeholder engagement to drive successful outcomes.
- Experience and thorough understanding of project management methods and proven ability to define, develop and manage large portfolios and programs of work in an environment with competing deadlines.
- Extensive experience and comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), including deep knowledge on agile and waterfall methodologies
- Proven ability to successfully develop and drive robust digital strategies to ensure P&C technology initiatives are closely aligned with business objectives, such as talent acquisition, retention, employee development and sustainable pay confidence
- Proven ability to provide creative and innovative solutions to problems, analyse and improve processes, and implement quality assurance frameworks into operations to deliver continuous improvement
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills including the ability to synthesize complex issues, develop clear strategies and policies, offer well-researched and actionable advice and solutions, often in a confidential environment and deliver robust outcomes.
- Strong leadership and proven people management expertise, with significant experience in building effective / high performance teams along with developing and retaining staff.
- Strong stakeholder relationship management and engagement experience across a diverse organisation and demonstrated ability to strategically influence and negotiate with both senior leaders and other stakeholders throughout the organisation, fostering robust internal and external networks.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to form trusted partnerships and communicate complex and technical concepts succinctly to non-technical and non-specialist audiences.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
