We, the Platform Hosting crew, as part of Global Technology Services, provide multiple virtualised hosting platforms (VMware, K8s) that run a substantial portion of the bank. We are firmly committed to the DevSecOps approach, and we operate using Scrum.
We are embarking on a program to modernise our Service Management function, automating predominantly manual activities and improving service resilience.
Your impact and contribution
As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will be a curious and creative technologist with broad knowledge of infrastructure technologies and their operational controls. You will know how to script for automation to reduce manual processes, thus delivering an optimised and resilient service posture.
You will be able to analyse the problem at hand (predominantly but not exclusively manual controls and governance processes) then develop and deliver automated solutions using standard CBA toolsets which includes:
- Developing insights generation and automation scripts using Python/Bash/PowerShell/SQL
- Managing CI/CD pipelines on Git repos (we use GitHub Enterprise Cloud)
- Automation of build, test and execution using GitHub actions
- Use of product specific APIs/SDKs for data extraction
- Data transformation reporting
- Automation of simple workflows
- Tools for automation of Web Apps designed for human use (Selenium/PlayWright)
What you’ll bring
To be successful you need to be able to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders inside our own crew and across the whole of the technology organisation. In addition, you will require the ability to:
- Collaboratively work with customer facing product engineers to design, build and run platforms that they can use to deliver customer value at greater quality, velocity, and safety.
- Write scripts that automate the operations of our platforms, infrastructure, environments, and tooling.
- Maintain the underlying infrastructure to ensure the that it is reliable, secure and scalable.
- Make all platforms entirely self-service, secure, and available within minutes without human approval.
- Ensure that our platforms continually evolve to embrace new technology and improve the happiness and efficiency of our software engineers.
- Participate in cross-group activities to build a culture of one team, bar-raising both our engineering capability and our technology solutions to drive our strategy.
